Genesis 25:22-24

Genesis 25:22-24

Rebekah is pregnant with twins, and there is a war being fought in her womb. She wondered, since her pregnancy was enabled by an intervention from God - why was is so violent and painful? She asked God:

“Why is this happening to me?” The Lord said to her,

“Two nations are in your womb,
and two peoples from within you will be separated;
one people will be stronger than the other,
and the older will serve the younger.”

When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.

Rebekah gives birth to twins: Esau and Jacob. Esau's children will become the Edomites, while Jacob's line becomes the Israelites. The struggle they started in their mother's womb continued down through generations.
