Prayer to One Who is Nigh

Deuteronomy 4 : 7-8

Moses is still reminding Israel of its relationship to Yahweh and how unique their God-encounters are in comparison to the rest of the people on the planet.

For what great nation is there who has a god so near to them as the Lord our God is to us in all things for which we call upon Him?

And what large and important nation has statutes and ordinances so upright and just as all this law which I set before you today?

This near presence of God leads these ancient Hebrews into prayer and praise. Even though God is invisible and absolute, they understand that He is with them.  Sometimes, it's obvious - like a pillar of fire at night and a pillar of smoke by day.  At other times, it obvious like being wrapped in the protection of spiritual wings.

Similar to birthday and anniversary celebrations in the West, Israel was urged to constantly remember God with their appointed times and festivals.

It's easy to take for granted the people we see every day; how much more easily can we forget to appreciate the One who beyond our physical sight?
